Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy focuses on helping individuals reach their highest level of independence in the following areas: activities of daily living, work/productivity, and leisure activities.

Occupational therapists work with people experiencing health problems such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, hand injuries, congenital conditions, and developmental problems. Practitioners work in a wide range of settings including schools, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home health, outpatient rehab clinics and community health programs. In addition to dealing with an individual's physical well being, occupational therapists address psychological, social and environmental factors that may impede independent functioning in all aspects of life. This unique perspective makes occupational therapy a vital part of a health care program.
